Campaign to ban Comic Sans typeface - Heck Ya!

Clipped from boinboing.net
Campaign to ban Comic Sans typeface
Earz Mag interviewed Dave Combs, a designer who hates Comic Sans so much he has launched a campaign to eradicate every last vestige of it off the planet.

Earz: I found a weird website on typography, it was written in Italian I think, and had images of a gravestone lettered in comic sans. What does that say to you?
Combs: That would only be appropriate if the deceased were a clown or comedian, but other than that, I'd come back to haunt whoever did that if I were the dead guy.

Learn English through Podcasts: Open Culture is Awesome

http://www.oculture.com/weblog/2007/04/learning_englis.html
...
The most obvious podcast to start with is the aptly titled English as a Second Language Podcast (iTunes - Feed - Web Site). Put together by two former professors, this very rich and deep collection teaches students proper pronunciation, idioms and slang, and it generally gets high marks. These guys seem to have a good corner on the market, and they're worth your time.

With just one mouse click WordSecretary searches several online services and search engines for more information.
Voluminous sources
WordSecretary has a build in database with 160.000 words (German version: 150.000 words), supplemented by the system dictionary (Mac OS X only). If an internet connection is available WordSecretary utilizes the WordNet online service in addition.

Take an online writing test without having to write

The Texas Education Association has an 'Writing Online Test" at:
TAKS 2003 G7 Writing Online Test

It's geared toward Grade 7 assessment and you need to read passages and select the correct answer to questions.
The first reading begins with:
Mei-Ling wrote this paper for a social studies assignment. She wants you to read the paper and think about how she might improve and correct it. When you finish reading, answer the questions that follow.
The first question follows as an example:
What change, if any, should be made in sentence 2?

A
Delete the comma after bed

B
Change starts to start

C
Change getting to geting

D
Make no change
This is definitely something that I'm going to try on my victims, er, students. If you also try it in an ELT environment, let me know how it goes.

And if you back up a bit on their site, you´ll find a whole slew of Interactive Online Versions of tests from the Student Assessment Division. Sweeet.

Wreak Havoc! - Can you raed tihs?

Can You Raed Tihs was developed to help you explore the interesting phenomenon that people do not look at a word one letter at a time but at the word as a whole. If the first and last letters are left unchanged, the middle letters can be "scrambled" without making the word much more difficult to read.
