http://www.granitestatenews.com/042904governor.html From Granite State News © 2004 April 29, 2004 Gov. Benson talks stock -Paul School students in Wakefield get lesson By Mary Saliba - Editor WAKEFIELD — Governor Craig Benson gave a group of 7th graders a crash course on the stock market last Friday, when he visited Paul School in Wakefield. Paul School is one of the six NH schools in Benson’s TPSE (Technology Promoting Student Excellence) Program, more familiarly called, “The Laptop Program.” The Governor provided each Paul School 7th grader with a Macintosh iBook laptop in January, and in this short time, principal Matthew Jozokos reports, “Every child has increased grades.” He also said there have been decreased absences, and that the students were much more excited to be learning. He added that the teachers were learning a lot too. When Benson asked the students, “How many of you have better grades now?” Almost every hand went up. Teacher Robert Colbath said, “The only ones who didn’t raise their hands were already ‘A’ students.” This pilot laptop program, which is funded entirely through private donations, is partly modeled after one created by the state of Maine. In Maine’s program, the first of its kind in the nation, middle school students are provided laptop computers. The state reports improvements in all areas of learning, and decreases in absences, disciplinary problems and tardiness. Benson stated that he expects equally positive results in New Hampshire, and hopes to demonstrate to state legislators the need for a state-funded program. ... http://www.granitestatenews.com/042904governor.html Posted at 11:48 AM Read More Wed - March 24, 2004Learning Vocabulary Can Be Fun http://www.vocabulary.co.il/
