The OED staff is mainly composed of many editors and researchers, and OED News often focuses on aspects of their work. This issue, however, contains articles written by two people in more unusual roles.
Beverley Hunt reflects on her first year as the OED Archivist, a position which requires her to engage with the OED's past and present, and also to prepare for its future.
Abigail Reynolds was the OED Artist in Residence for the academic year 2003-4, during which time she spent two days each week working alongside lexicographers in the OED offices. Here, she describes how the residency, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, inspired her work The Frozen Sea.
This issue of OED News is my first as editor. I'd like to thank Peter Gilliver, who has been such an excellent editor and contributor over the past three years. Peter will be a hard act to follow!
