RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Vital Source Technologies announced that Vital Source Key(TM), bundled with the Personal Portable Library(TM) (PPL), a digital content library of the great works of Western civilization, is now available pre-installed on Apple Macintosh desktops and portables and as a stand-alone product through apple.com/education.

The PPL gives students and staff more flexibility than ever before when using their school resources and supplies. School staff can customize the library to fit their schools' curriculum, and they can add textbooks and other third-party resources to their library. Students' also can personalize their libraries with supplemental materials and even take notes and highlight in the text of the books they are studying. Best of all, it makes education portable for students and staff.

With the PPL, students have volumes of resources on their computers. These resources support - and in many cases even replace - costly paper and online resources. The PPL includes the complete works of Shakespeare, maps, art, historical documents and more.

"Vital Source Key and the Personal Portable Library greatly enrich one-to-one computing initiatives in the K-12 and postsecondary educational markets by making over 2,000 resources available to students at the click of a mouse," said Frank A. Daniels, III, President and CEO of Vital Source. "Most importantly, Vital Source's Custom Curriculum Solution(TM) enable schools to design custom curriculums by integrating internal materials alongside commercially-available textbooks and course packs."
